  • PortaMEe Hip Carrier for urban parents on the go

    08 August 2009

Hip mama alert - do you have a super cool looking carrier for your traveling needs?

I came across this really nice looking carrier that's got the looks as well as functions.  Similar to other carriers, it allows you to carry your baby traveler with both hands free to handle other things.  But this gear also has lumbar support and lets you keep eye contact with your baby traveler.

You will also find little pouches for you to stash away your cell phone, money or water bottle, which you will sure find handy when you are on the road.  I personally find carriers to be a better bet when you are traveling or flying with a baby.  And this one is promising to be a really good choice of the bunch.

This thing will take your baby traveler through first 3 years of life.  It's super stylish and incredibly comfortable, and has a gel-padded shoulder strap for your long hour days on the road.  The PortaMEe Hip Carrier is suitable for ages 5 months to 3 years. (For babies younger from 6 weeks old to 5 months, look for the PortaMEe Infant Headrest.)

  • Ergo Baby Carrier - your front, back and side carrier

    22 September 2008

Not every baby carrier can let you nurse while wearing it.  It won't be the easiest task ever, but if you are in a pinch, (and that's usually when you are on the road), you can do that with the Ergo Baby Carrier.  Another great feature of the carrier is its distribution of weight.  When we compare notes in a group of parents who use different baby carriers, the Ergo Baby Carrier always comes out on top.  It is easy on your back and hips, even after a day long trip.

Another plus is its design for baby sitting.  Most other carriers hang your baby traveler by the crotch.  Its ergonomic design supports a correct sitting position for the baby's hip, pelvis and spine growth.

Traveling with your baby traveler in this will be a bliss.  But many parents said it is a godsend when it comes to doing household chores.  Carrying your baby on your back, you will have your hands free to do housework and your movement usually puts your baby to sleep within minutes.  At other times, you can carry your baby either in the front or on the side on your hip.

However, you may want to practise putting your baby on your back.  It's not something that everyone will get the hang of the very first time.  Another complaint from parents is that your baby faces inward in the front position.  This problem is usually solved by putting babies on your hip.

  • Your best travel mate - gogo Kidz Travelmate

    25 August 2008

If you have traveled with your baby ever before, you will know navigating airports carrying your baby is not fun.  Here comes a gadget to the rescue.  This accessory makes your trips easier by eliminating the need to hand carry or rent a carseat.  You no longer need to carry both your baby and the car seat.

Storage: it folds to a flat lay in a mid-sized car trunk.

The new edition includes a new ratcheting, quick-release strap that makes life a little easier still.

    Weight: 5 pounds

Other features: It's got a telescoping handle that would extend for the parents.  The wheels are wide rubber-edged.  Your baby traveler will enjoy the stable and smooth ride.

Cons: You will likely be asked to take this apart at the x-ray machine at the airport.  But that should not be a big hassle.

Note: FAA does recommend car seats for both airplane and your destination.

    Tips:

    1. Practice attaching your gogo Kidz Travelmate to your car seat PRIOR to your travel day. Do not hesitate to call Go-Go Babyz (408.360.0653) to have someone walk you through the set up. Once you attach to your car seat for the first time, practice a few more times and you will find it to be very easy and fast. In addition, with a little practice, you should be able to attach the gogo Kidz Travelmate to your car seat in the upright position, even with a sleeping child in the car seat.

    2. It is a great idea to travel with a back pack rather than a shoulder strap bag. The back pack will allow you to have both hands free: one for wheeling your car seat and the other for holding your boarding pass. (Baby Sherpa makes a great diaper back pack)

    3. IF your car seat does not fit through the x-ray machine with the gogo Kidz attached, the quick release wheels can be removed to create extra clearance. If this does not work, simply ask security to take your seat (with the gogo Kidz attached) to the side to hand wand rather than having to remove the gogo Kidz from your seat.

    4. Your car seat will not fit down the aisle of the airplane. If you will be using your car seat on the airplane, take your child out of the seat just prior to boarding. Wheel your car seat onto the plane and put the handle in the lowest position so at the last minute, you can pick up your car seat by the gogo Kidz handle to carry down the aisle of the plane.

    5. If you do not have a separate seat for your child on the airplane, take advantage of the easy ability to use your car seat as your stroller through the airport and gate check. This will allow you to safely and securely have your child ride through the airport and have your car seat for layovers, or simply at your final destination. Remember, the taxi cab will most likely NOT have a car seat for the ride from the airport to your destination.
